What’s your name and the name of your business?

Paul Wineberg  – Director at South East Accounting

How long have you been in business?

I started as a Sole Practitioner in May 2012. After 2 years, I signed Jason and Callinda as business partners, and we purchased an accounting practice in Narre Warren and another in Lynbrook. We then merged them all together to set up South East Accounting in April 2014.

Can you give a short description of your business?

We are a growing accounting firm of 6 people, 4 accountants, 1 bookkeeper and 1 admin. We complete accounting work for small business owners, Self Managed Superannuation Funds and Individual Tax Returns. Our clients range form small entities turning over $20,000 through to larger businesses with $10M turnover. We are Xero certified advisers and help people grow their business.

What motivated you to run this business?

After 10 years of working at other accounting firms, I thought there was a better way of doing things rather than filling out timesheets to bill clients for every 6 minutes of the day. I wanted to give our clients a fixed fee service and actually help them grow their business. I found this was lacking in the accounting industry. Everyone was too compliance focused and making sure their accountants were meeting their productivity and billings targets. We wanted to change that and give our clients more business focused advice.

What keeps your customers coming back?

We like to do things differently. We wanted to create a different atmosphere in the office. We don’t wear suits and we like to work with our clients to help grow their business rather than just complete their tax obligations. We see ourselves as a “Virtual CFO’ to many of our clients. We don’t charge our clients for phone calls. We want small business owners to keep us informed of what they are doing.

Where are you located?

We have an office at 5/24-26Woods St Beaconsfield. I often find myself on the road visiting my business clients though.

A transparent billing process that isn’t going to see them with a massive accounting bill that they did not expect.

What really makes us unique is………..

We don’t charge for phone calls from our clients. We actually want them to call us before they make any big decisions in their business. At previous places I have worked I have heard that clients are too scared to call because they don’t want to receive a bill.

I enjoy going to work each day because………..

I actually enjoy my work. We have created a friendly, laid back approach in the office and it in enjoyable to work in that sort of environment.
